Places of Interest in Bendigo, Australia

For those interested in a mine tour, Central Deborah mine is the place to be where three types of tours are offered. Do the surface tour and observe mine workings. Bear in mind that a little reconfiguration has been carried out for tourists’ benefit. Alternatively, climb the poppet head to the overhead link and go for the battery crusher. The third kind of tour is the underground one where one can see demonstrations of sorts and drilling rigs. Of course, the last kind of tour is inclusive of the first two (surface tour and gold panning) and by itself consumes half an hour. Visitors will go down a ladder and later be treated to a lunch of pasties at the back of the main level of the mine.

Places to catch a snack or a meal are the Malayan Orchid, Bull St, Clogs, GPO, The Dispensary, Guards Room @ Wine Bank, Tyohoon, Whirakee and Wild Mint. Grab a drink at Wine Bank, the Rifle Brigade Brewery and for Bendigo Shiraz, go to Waterwheel, Balgownie, Harcourt, Chateau Leamon, Blackjack, Mandurang Valley and Connor Park.

From Bendigo, one can easily catch a visit to Heathcote and Castlemaine by train, taking about half an hour on its way to Melbourne.

Bendigo may be a small city with lesser attractions than those of its cousins in Australia. It is however worth visiting and one can be assured of enjoyment of its attractions. Besides, it is much less crowded and unlike some other places, has no long queues to endure. At any rate, one can always travel to the other parts of Australia from Bendigo. Just check and sort out matters such as timetables, locations of departures and such beforehand. This extra travelling alone is an adventure in itself and offers further opportunities for sightseeing.
